N.Z. Man's Car 'Went Like A Bomb' In Brighton Run

(Special Correspondent S.Z.P.A.)

LONDON, November 4. "She went like a bomb—no trouble at all. In fact I think she is about 100 per cent, right,” said Mr L Southward, of Lower Hutt, after completing the Royal Automobile Club’s commemoration run of 57 miles from Westminster Bridge, London, to Madeira drive, at Brighton, in his 1904 Wolseley. “It was a wonderful experience and well worth bringing her over from New Zealand. The weather was not at all bad and we were well wrapped up and didn’t feel the cold. We stopped a couple of times for a cup of tea and took it easy.” Mr Southward was accompanied during the run by his

wife, brother and niece. Crowds watched the run all the way along the route—one vicar announced he would not hold his Sunday morning service so that his flock could see the veterans roll by. Mr Southward, in common with all other drivers to complete the course, received a •Royal Automobile Club veteran car run medal.

During the afternoon Mr Southward took, part in >he parade of veterans when his maroon Wolseley, with its gleaming brasswork, was much admired and photographed. He is driving the ear back to London tomorrow.

Mr Southward owns a collection of 30 vintage and veteran cars.
