PEKING, November 5.
Tens of thousands of people, chanting slogans and waving banners, resumed their march past the Cuban Embassy today as the massive pro-Cuban demonstration in Peking entered its third day.
Usually well - informed sources said the demonstrations would again continue all day. About a million Chinese were estimated to have marched past the embassy yesterday in support of Cuba's demands against the United States. In an editorial. the “People’s Daily” called on all “peaceful-loving” people of Asia, Africa and Latin America to be “mobilised urgently to force the Kennedy Administration to accept Premier Castro’s five demands” for ending the Cuban crisis. “This is the only correct means to defend the independence. sovereignty and honour of Cuba. “The 650 million Chinese people will always stand by the 7.000.000 fraternal Cuban people in weal or wo«g through thick and thin, and fight to the end against our common enemy. United States imperialism.” it said.
In New York the United Nations Secretary-General (V Thant) scheduled meetings with members of the Security Council today about a council meeting, perhaps this week, on the Cuban crisis.
He told reporters yesterday his talks with the members of the 11-nation council would be in line with his practice of "constant consultation." the Associated Press said. It was possible the council would meet this week, U Thant said. Some sources
have said there might be a meeting on Wednesday. Others thought It would not be likely to be convened until next week.
U Thant repeated to reoorters that what he has said before, that he would like to have a meeting of the council scheduled “if there is any reasonable area of common agreement among the parties directly involved.”
The parties are the United States, the Soviet Union and Cuba.
The Soviet First Deputy Prime Minister. Mr Anastas Mikoyan, although reported to Le deeply grieved by the death of his wife, continued his crisis talks with Dr. Castro yesterday. The two met for two hours and 25 minutes at the Government Palace. No communique was issued, the Associated Press reported. The talks presumably dealt with United States demands for inspection of the withdrawal of Soviet missiles from Cuba. Statements after the opening talks only said the two discussed international tension.
Mr Mikoyan's eon. Sergei Mikoyan, aged 34, left for Moscow yesterday morning for his mother's funeral. Cuba has recalled the heads of 10 of its diplomatic missions overseas who stated publicly as late as last week that there were no Soviet bases in Cuba, informed sources quoted by the Associated Press said. Their value as spokesmen abroad was considered to be impaired by events proving there were such bases.
While the issue ot on-aite inspection remains open, another problem—that ot preventing further shipments of offensive weapons to Cuba —appears to be solved. The United States and the Soviet Union have agreed that the Internataonai Red Cross could inspect cargoes going to Cuba. AJ*.. quoting authoritative sources, said a former president ot the International Oomnkttee of the Red Cross, Mr Paul Ruegger would arrive at ths United Nation* in New York on Tuesday to negotiate with U Thant on Red Cross inspection of Cubabound Soviet ships.
