Woman’s Appeal Rejected (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Oct 16. The Court of Appeal in a reserved judgment delivered by the President (Sir Kenneth Grcsson) today dismissed an appeal against conviction and sentence brought by Colleen Mavis Johnson, a married woman, of Herne Bay. Auckland, against her conviction for procuring. His Honour said there was ample evidence that Johnson did agree, for gain or reward, to procure a girl for personal gain. “Accordingly, the appeal against conviction must be dismissed. “Stress was laid upon the age of the prisoner—2 B—and on the fact that this was her first appearance. “We regard the sentence of six months’ imprisonment as severe, but a lesser sentence might not have sufficiently indicated the gravity of the offence and we are not disposed to vary it”
