ENTRY TO E.E.C.

“Very Worst Moment” (N.Z.P.A-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Oct 16. The Labour Party leader, Mr Gaitskell said last night that “this is the very worst moment” for Britain to enter the Common Market. ”We have made it plain that we are begging to go in,” he said on a television programme. “We happen to have two men in power in Germany and France who are very much against our going in.” Mr Gaitskell, who is against Britain's entry on the terms so far negotiated, refused to say whether he would repudiate the terms already negotiated if he became Prime Minister. He said that the United States Administration was "dangerously wrong in thinking that the creation of a European state is necessarily going to be a stabilising influence.

“Anything with the words United States in it appeals to the American Administration,” he said. “They think there must be a United States of Europe like the United States of America.”
