GHANA AND BRITAIN

Relationship In Law (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, October 15. The Court of Appeal ruled today that Ghana is still subject to British laws affecting the Commonwealth although it is now a republic and owes no allegiance to Queen Elizabeth. The ruling arose over a libel action in which a judge on July 16 gave judgment in default of appearance against the Guinea Press, Ltd., of Accra, Ghana printers of the Accra “Evening News.” The Guinea Press appealed from an earlier judgment by a London court rejecting their contention that they were not British subjects, or of a British Dominion, and could not be served with a British writ'. Dismissing the appeal with costs, Lord Denning. Master of the Rolls said that although Ghana became a republic in 1960 she remained in the British Commonwealth. and all existing laws relating to it remained operative.
