Racing, Show Day, and an Air Pageant—* Rangiora’s annual contribution to Labour week-end entertainment —is expected to attract thousands to the four-day programme designed to cater for all tastes and interests. Since the major reconstruction of the race track, the second two-day meeting of the North Canterbury Racing Club will be held on Friday and Monday. Saturday is Show Day. Recognised for many years as one of the best country shows in New Zealand, the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual show is popular with exhibitors. Rangiora’s geographical position and the show’s place in the Spring circuit make it an ideal dress rehearsal for the Canterbury Metropolitan Show. With a carnival programme including record entries, machinery, equipment, industrial, and commercial displays, stock, flowers, produce and cookery exhibits, sheepdog trials, side-shows, shearing and wool handling competitions, and a wide range of events, including horses, ponies and dogs, the show mirrors the prosperity of the district. ; Rangiora’s show is the second oldest in ! Canterbury. The first was held in 1866 and ; has been a picnic outing for the whole family I ever since. ! Gates open at 8.30 a.m. The Grand I Parade will be about 3 p.m. Rangiora’s Air Pageant opens at 2 p.m. I on Sunday, but joy rides will be available I from 11 a.m. A hovercraft, to be demonstrated for the I first time in the South Island, the Harvard I aerobatic team, and many displays and I events should make it a popular afternoon’s I entertainment.
