Obituary MR H. LABAN
Mr Hubert Laban, founder of toe Chriatchurch firm of Herb Laban's, died in Chrigtchurch thi* week. He wag 80. Mr Laban wa* bora in Liverpool. and was educated in England. He worked for a London wboleaale firm for tome time before leaving England in 1906 to come to New Zealand. He worked in Chriatchurch for J. Ballantyne and Company. Ltd, the Drapery and Ganaral Importing rVanparty, ISA and Hrllrnafctn Brother*. led, before aterting hit own bueinaaa in Titnaru in 1913. After a year in Ttawru be moved to Waixnate, and in 1924 to* waa moved to Cbriataburch. Mr Laban wm a foundation member ot th* Elmwood and Fendatan Bowling Club*, and he we* president of the former dub for a time. He wa* a wad-known member of the Canterbury Hatattera* Aaaodation, ait which be bad ateo been preMdcwt. Mr Laban la eurvived by hit onty ton.
