Conference Yesterday The consideration of remits, and sectional discussions on accounting, staffing, salaries, regulations, and stares occupied the annual conference of the New Zealand Hospital Officers’ Association at its morning and afternoon sessions yesterday. The conference was officially opened at 10.30 a.m. by the Minister of Health (Mr McKay), who flew down from Wellington earlier in the. morning, and returned by air at midday.
The conference was also addressed by Mr W. E. Bate, president of the Hospital Boards’ Association of New Zealand.
Among remits passed was one calling on the Department of Health to publish a monthly house journal, confidential to hospital boards and their staffs, to make known new techniques, equipment, materials, and similar information of value to boards, and suggesting that boards be encouraged to submit material for such a publication.
Another remit asked the Department of Health to expedite the issue of amendments to the Hospital Employment Regulations after the issue of Arbitration Court orders and other salary adjustments to obviate the need for boards’ staffs to work excessive overtime to calculate arrears. Today, the conference will elect the association ”s president and four Dominion executive members for the ensuing year, and will also be addressed by Dr. W. L Paterson, director of outpatient services for the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Dr. L. C. L. Averill) and a member of the board. Mr L. A. Bennett, addressed the conference last evening. The doctons spoke on their recent overseas tours, with particular reference to hospstals they hod visited and illustrated their talks with slides.
