PUBLIC VISIT CRUISER
More Than 2000 See H.M.S. Tiger Between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m yesterday 2114 visitors of all ages went aboard H.M.S. Tiger at Lyttelton and were shown over toe cruiser above decks only. They came by train and car. During the day there were 378 official visitors, comprising mainly schoolchildren, scouts, sea rangers (girls) and Army representatives. Yesterday afternoon more than half the cruiser’s complement left Lyttelton on overnight shore leave. Buses and cars took 110 men to Oxford, Amberley, Hawarden, Motukarara, and Lincoln. In groups of three and four they were taken into the homes of farmers in these areas. Members of the crew who were taken on similar visits to Darfleld and Curt on Tuesday returned full of praise for the hospitality received. A luncheon for local, civic, and service dignitaries was given aboard the cruiser yesterday by Vice-Admiral J. B Frewen. Second-in-Command of ‘he Far East Station. H.M.S. Tiger Is due to sail for Dunedin at 3 p.m. today.
