Rowing SEASON OPENS
Second Century In Canterbury
Bowing in Canterbury entered its second century when Mr B. R. Walker, the president of the Canterbury Rowing Association, formally declared the 1902-43 rowing season open on Saturday at Kerr's reach. The facilities to Improve Ute standard of rowing in Canterbury were all there, he said. “If rowers bring to ttftir sport during the next IDO years, the same enthusiasm shown by the pioneers, they will be able to make as much progress." Before the official opening the Union dub officially named Its new banana-type boat, the Leda, and launched her tor the first time. She attracted a great amount of Interest and her performance was watched closely by officials and rowers from other clubs. After a massed row pert of crews of the three clubs. Avon. Canterbury and Union, the river was cleared tor the elube to hold their Individual openings and club races.
