Jockey’s Leg Fractured

The Riccarton jockey, W. Traecey, suffered a compound fracture of the left leg and a severe shaking when he was tossed tom his mount. Derailment, about two furlongs after the start of the Claude Stock Memorial Handicap at Orari on Saturday. Traecey, who was admitted to the Timaru Hospital, was reported to be comfortable yesterday. The fracture, which b between the knee and the ankle, will probably be re-set today. It is hoped that by the end of this week Traecey will be well enough to be transferred to the Christchurch Hospital.

At an inquiry after the race the club’s judicial committee found that the incident was accidental and no blame was attached to any other rider. It was decided that the incident was caused by Derailment. a long-atriding horse, pulling very’ hard in a tightly-packed field and dipping the heels of another runner. This caused the horse to dip and Traecey was pulled from the saddle. R. N. Marsh, the rider of Red Skies in the Temuka Stakes, was fined £5 by the starter. Mr R. N. Burgess, for anticipating the start. After the running of the Gladstone Improvers’ Handicap. E. J. Didham, the rider of Chief Order, was fined £5 for failing to ride his mount out at the finish.
