FINDINGS OF A.C.W.W.
Final Reports To Conference
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 12.
A buffet dinner in the Melbourne Town Hall tonight marked the end of the tenth triennial conference of the Associated Country Women of the World and for many of the 1200 delegates from 25 countries, the beginning of a sightseeing tour of Australia. In today’s closing session, the reports of three group discussions were presented to delegates and observers. The report on learning said that the home should be the inspiration of civic service. Other findings of this group were:
(1) In order to see more women taking their place in public life, women themselves must be stimulated to accept other women in leading positions. Men reacted to the value women placed on themselves.
(2) As far as emergent countries were concerned, the AC.W.W would do more in the collection and dissemination of information and training of leaders. The report on leisure said the youth of the community needed guidance, but not tactless direction, on the best ways of turning away from mass media, which offered little in the way of selfexpression.
The family was the basic unit of life and children should be trained to enjoy leisure with what they had around them, such as making stamp collections, scrap books or learning about nature. “We must start training people early or when they reach retirement they will not know how to use their leisure but will simply feel lost,” the report said. The world president, Mrs G. van Beekhoff, of the Netherlands, announced that the eleventh triennial conference of the A.C.W.W. would be held in Dublin.
