Half-Back's 34 Tries
One of the best performances by a young Rugby League player this season was put up by the seven-year-old captain of the Shirley under eight team, Kevin Steel. The team for which he played half-back was run-ner-up in the competition and won the knock-out competition. He scored 34 tries <lO2 points) in about 14 games, missed scoring in only one game and scored five tries in another. Young Steel started playing when he was five and improved vastly this season. He played for the Canterbury under eight representatives at Wellington.
