Croquet Referee

A former president of the New Zealand Croquet Council, Mr W. H. Kirk, of Christchurch, has been appointed referee in charge

of the Macßobertson International Shield test matches between New Zealand and Australia at Invercargill. New Zealand and England at Dunedin and Australia and England at Christchurch in January. Mr Kirk will also be referee for the South Island during Mr A. D. Heenan's absence.

At present New Zealand handicapper. Mr Kirk was president of the council from 1948 until 1957. In 1949 he organised a goodwill tour to Australia where 30 New Zealand players took part in the Australian carnival in Brisbane.

Mr Kirk is also a good player and has won several championship*. At present he is holder of the Canterbury open and men'* championships and is also the Canterbury association referee.
