The cadetsi'.ips are tenable at any univei»ity centre. although the majority of placements will be made in Wellington. The minimum educational requirement is University Entrance. The minimum starting salary will be £505 for holders of University Entrance. Higher starting salaries may be paid according to experience and educational qualifications. During the cadetships, appointees are required to take or continue an approved degree course at their nearest university. The period of the cadetship will be approximately the years curing which cadets are taking their degree courses. In that time cadets are given basic clerical training in social service Departments and have the opportunity of absorbing the atmosphere of social work and undertaking social work appropriate to their experience and knowledge. On completing their degrees, appointees spend a year or two usually with the status of Social Work Trainees, gaining fulltime experience in social science departments. Selected appointees will then receive awards for full-time study for the Diploma in Social Science at Victoria University of Wellington. Applications on P.S.C. The appointees will be placed on the technical staff of the Department of Agriculture at Wallaceville Animal Research Station and sent to Otago University for two years to complete a B Sc. degree in microbiology. Outstanding students may have the awards extended to enable them to complete M.Sc .in microbiology.
