E.E.C. Buying

Increases

The European Economic Community bought 780.224 bales of wool from New Zealand last year, an increase of 177.154 bales, or 30 per cent., on the previous year's figure. New Zealand's total exports increased by 203.063 bales, or 13 per cent. This is shown in the latest return from the New Zealand Wool Commission of New Zealand's wool exports, for the year ended June, 1962.

Britain's wool purchases rose from 487.496 bales to 522.003 bales, but her share of New Zealand's wool exports eased from 31.2 per cent, to 29.6 per cent. The E.E.C's share rose from 37.4 per cent, to 43.1 per cent.— the highest, figure since the inception of the E.E.C. in 1958. Details of New Zealand's wool shipments to principal destinations over the last three years are shown in the fallowing table:—
