T.E.A.L PHOTO CONTEST

City Man Wins First Prize

Mr R. V. Francis, of Cashmere, a freelance photographer, won first prize and two merit awards in the 1982 T.E.A.L. photographic competition. His winning entry was "A View from the Balconies.” a study of rock formation in the Grampian mountains, in Victoria. His two merit awards were for the “Purling Brook Falls,” a queet scene also in Australia. and the "Leaping Porpoise.” on the Queensland Gc'id Coast.

The second prize went to Mr M. F. Moffat, of Orua Downs, R.D., Foxton, for a portrayal of an elderly Maori woman.

Mr R. Singleton, of Auckland, won the third prize with “Landscape in Evening Light," overlooking Lake Hayes in Otago. Eight other merit awards went to: Mr A. D. Warren, of Rotorua. “Beauty Unspoiled" in the Hollyford Valley, and "Storm over Doubtless Bay” (taken from Cooper’s Beach); Dr. J. Ballin. of Christchurch (study of a small boy in Apia. Western Samoa): Mr W. Hale, of Foxton (study of a Maori woman starting to weave a fiax basket); Mr D. Scurrah, of Auckland. “Mount Rainmaker at Pago Pago”; Mr C. Urquhart, of Auckland “Mid-day Sun Above Mount Ngauruhoe”: and Mrs H- Mackenzie • Tahitian girl. and also scenic view of Tahiti). There were 81 prints entered by photographers from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Tahiti.

The judges were Messrs F. Hoffman, a professional photographer: D. W. Symington, British Information Officer and T. L Bolster, TEAL publicity manager.
