100-YEAR-OLD VOTER
Mrs C. Connell, Of Lyttelton
A Lyttelton woman who will be 101 next Thursday has already cast her special vote for today’s local body elections because it was more convenient for her to do it ait home.
She is Mrs Catherine Connell, a native of County Antrim, Ireland, who came to New Zealand’ at the age of 13. Most of her life was spent at Queenstown, where her husband, a Glaswegian, was chief engineer of the old lake steamers, Ben Lomond and Antrim. He also helped to build the veteran Earnslaw, Mrs Connell is active and mentally alert. She went to hospital for an operation last November. This was her first time in hospital. phe lives with her daughter, Mrs A. Conaghan, of Winchester street, and reads occasionally with glasses. Radio is another interest. No plans have been made for any special celebration on her 101st birthday.
