Golf TITLE EVENT VENUES

Boys’ Matches At Shirley Press Assn.—Copyright) •WELLINGTON, October 1. The Shirley golf course in Christchurch is to be the venue for the 1963 boys' golf championships of New Zealand. it was decided by the New Zealand Golf Council today. The South Island championships will be staged by the Otago Golf Club at the Balmaceweh course. Dunedin. The North Island championship will ■ be held at Taumarunui. Christchurch was given the boys’ championship after Mr J. A. Souter had suggested ‘hat the first two or three tournaments should, alternate between Wellington and Christchurch so ' as to allow some indication of the strength of the boys’ games in both ; islands. . The first tournament at Miramar last month was described by the chairman.. Mr G. P. -Robertson as a “great success ” Handicap System Auckland clubs which were trying out a new handicapping system based on an American scheme were very satisfied with it. Mr J. N. Bissett, of Auckland, told the council. One dub reported that 54 per cent, of its members had their handicaps reduced on the first five cards, and not raised as was commonly expected. But since then, as more cards were put in, their handicapps were levelling out.

The council gave its approval for the Auckland clubs to give the new system a trial run for the rest of the season's association and club events.
