Growing Co-operation Among Churches Noted
"While there are many points of doctrine on which we cannot and do not agree with the Church of Rome, we should not let our differences blind us to the fact that there are many aspects on which we, do agree,” the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) said yesterday when addressing the Synod of the Diocese of Christchurch
“Further, there are .many spheres in which growing cooperation shows the change of climate. For instance, in this Diocese of Christchurch the Church of Rome has joined with us and other members of the National Council of Churches in building a series of hospital chapels; and plans have been drawn for a university chapel on the campus at Ham which will be used by us all,” he said. \ “We should all have a concern for the unity of Christ's Church. While liitle progress has been made recently between the Church of England and the Church of Scotland, it would seem that now there is greater hope of growing unity between the Church of
England and the Orthodox Churches of the East,” he said.
“Since all the Orthodox Churches came together at Rhodes in 1960, there has • been a distinct improvement in climate between the Church of Rome and other Churches who are members of the World Council in which there are increasing numbers of Orthodox Churches . who have sought and gained membership. During recent sessions of the central committee of the World Council of Churches, and at New Delhi. Roman Catholic observers were present. His Holiness the Pope has invited many representatives of other Churches to. be present at the Roman Catholic Ecumenical Council at the Vatican, which will begin on October 11,” said the Bishop.
