Land Sales
Sir, —One would expect better from the president of the Canterbury - Westland branch of the Read Estate Institute than mere rumour in his annual report. If he kept a reasonable note of policy statements by party leaders he would know that Mr Nash and other Labour Party leaders have time and time again said that it is impossible to return to the Land Sales Court, and that there is no intention to do so. No attempt was made to restore the court during the last three-year term. The public and members of this organisation will accord Mr Keenan little credit for his fishing for red herrings.— Yours, etc.. COMMISSION-PAYER. September 21, 1962 [Mr E. G. Keenan, president of the Canterbury-West-land branch of the Real Estate Institute, said that his comment on land sales control in his annual report was prompted by a Press Association report from Auckland printed in “The Press” on March 29. The report stated that the next Labour Government might reintroduce land sales control and also stated that the remits committee of the national council of the Labour Party had approved a remit to the national conference which said: “That steps' be taken to prevent where possible the
sky-rocketing of land and building values.” The report further stated that the remit was one of several approved for incorporation in the party’s policy relating to land. Mr Keenan said that if the correspondent had any information that the remit was not to be proceeded with the Real Estate Institute would be glad to learn of U.)
