Royalist Visits Bring Cricket To Hawaii
(Neto Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Sept. 26. A cricket club has sprung up in Hawaii after the visit of the New Zealand cruiser Royalist, according to a message received by the Navy in Auckland.
When the ship was there about a month ago a match was arranged . for the crew by a local enthusiast who advertised in a newspaper for a team. The interest was such that a club was formed, with the British Consul as patron, and it has played regularly every Saturday. The club now has 60 members. When the Royalist returned to Hawaii three days ago a ship’s team again played the club and won by seven runs Teams from the cruiser also played an exhibition Rugby match under floodlights at the Ward Field Naval Base before about 2000. It proved very popular with the spectators, most cf whom had not seen a Rugby match before. A number described it as “an exciting sport.’’
