Earthquake In Bay Of Plenty

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 26. An eairthquake. described by some residents as the worst they had experienced, shook Taurangn at 10.48 tonight. It lasted about 15 seconds, the most severe jolt coming in the middle of the shake. Immediately after the quake the Taurangn exchange was besieged with calls. The staff had taken shelter in one corner of the exchange room as the whole building appeared to move. Two lesser tremors were felt at 11.5 p.m. An earthquake was felt in the Paeroa-Thames district at 10.45 p.m. No reports of a second shake in the district have been received.
