LONDON, Sept. 26. Tw. British families who left last April for New Zealand in a singledecker bus arrived back in London last night from Bombay after rinning ont of money needed to finish th. trip. Mr and Mrs Ronald Fairbanks and their son Michael, aged 6, had set out with Mr and Mrs Anthony Price and their children, Susan, aged 10, Lee, aged 8, and Dawn, aged 5. with only £l2O sterling between them. They hoped the men, both toolmakers, could find jobs along the way. But they could not get work, and the British Consulate in Bombay paid their
air fares home. The families will have to work to repay the £5OO fares. But they still hope to emigrate to New Zealand in two years' time—by ship. N. Water Or Petrol Mr Fairbanks said they ran out of water and petrol in a desert area of Persia. ‘‘Going through the desert, the springs of the bus broke, the stove blew up. the fridge quit. Tony got sunrtroke and we ran out of petrol and water,” he said. “We had to wait for ■ desert bus to come along.” In India, the families had a problem with Indian food. Most of the children refused to eat it and they found Western meals very expensive.
