FIELD TRIP TO WOODSTOCK

Forest And Bird Society

More than 280 members of the Forest and Bird Protection Society visited the Woodstock Station, Waimakariri Gorge, on the society’s second field trip of the season on Saturday. Members saw clematis, coprosnas, and red beech in flower, and wildlife seen and heard during the day included native pigeons, bellbirds, replenar, and kingfishers.

A party of junior members, accompanied by members of the Oxford wolf cub pack, were taken by Mr W. J. Harris, a society member, on a special native-situdy tramp which will be the subject of an essay for which prizes have been given. So far uncertain weather had kept the attendance down on both field trips run this season, raid the Canterbury branch organiser (Mr I. H. Gray).
