Sprackett
The Rev C. R. Sprackett. minister of the St. Martin’s Presbyterian Church., has been appointed secretary for inter-church aid. refugee and world service, by the Australian Council of Churches. He will take up duties at headquarters in Sydney in January
Mr Sprackett will be responsible for raising £l5O 000 a year by the Australian churches for relief and rehabilitation work, mainly in Asia He will also supervise the resettlement of between 4000 and 5000 emigrants in Australia each year, taken from the list complied by the World Council of Churches Born in Eltham. Mr Sprackett was educated at the Palmerston North and Otago Boys' High Schools, and graduated M.A from the Uni. versify of New Zealand before studying at the Theological Hall of the Presbyterian Church in Dunedin. Ordained in 1944, Mr Sprackett served in Reefton and Duntroon before coming to St Martins 10 years ago He is vice-chairman of the Canterbury CORSO, committee
The secretary of the National Council of Churches in New Zealand (the Rev A A Brash) said yesterday that the appointment was a tribute to Mr Sprackett and New Zealand
The Rev D. Taylor, formerly of Christchurch College, who holds another of the Australian council's three executive positions, will return to New Zealand to work for the National Council of Churches.
