Rugby League BENEFIT MATCH AT HORNBY

A benefit match for the widow of G G. Neiman will be played between Papanui and Hornby, at Hornbv Domain, on Sunday. October 7. This was decided at a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League's Board of Control last evening. Neiman, a former Canterbury representative and Hornby and Papanui player, was killed in a motor accident in June. Originally it was intended that the match also be the play-off for the Tavendale Cup, but with other heavy commitments for the remainder of the season, neither club was willing to play the fixture as a cup play-off. The board has now declared Papanui and Hornby joint winners of the cup for the season. In the Tavendale Cup competition. held in conjunction with the first round of the championship earlier in the season, Papanui and Hornby tied with eight points each.
