ILAM CHAPEL

Preliminary Plan Received Preliminary drawings for an inter - denominational chapel on the new Bam campus of the University of Canterbury were received by the council yesterday. ft has a pyramid-shaped roof and a glassed end to the sanctuary through which congregations may see a religious symbol in a garden setting. The chapel will be built in a grove of trees between the entrance to 'Tlam’’ and the main sports fields.

The design was arresting and unusual for this part of the world, said the ViceChancellor (Dr. L. L. Pownall). By some standards the design might be provocative.

The council considered details in committee.
