Marples Sees More Need (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Sept. 18. The Transport Minister (Mr Ernest Msgptes) said he intended making the testing of one-year-cid ca-rs erwnpulsory by autumn. 1965. "I have been shocked atwhat I have seen.” he said. “It is absolutely frightening to think a men can drive rotund with faults like these and not know about it.” “The Times'' says compulsory testing Cor five-year-old cars will probably be introduced early next year and that thereafter they will be cabled up for testing at a«t average of one age group every seven months until all but new cars will be unable to get a road fund licence without a current test certificate. “Although the number of cars on the road has been increasing at a rate of half a million annually for the last four years and reach six million in 1961, vehicle testing stations expect to be able to cope with this new influx of second-hand cars without any problems.”
