‘No Softening By Six’

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter-—Copyright) LONDON. Sept. 19.

Appeals by Commonwealth Prime Ministers would bring no softening in the attitude iof the Six towards Britain's 1 entry into the European , Economic Community. This I is the interpretation political i observers put on an address by Professor Walter Hallstein, president of the E.E.C. Commission given at Strasbourg. ‘‘The Times” Strasbourg correspondent, however, says that Professor Hallstein did emphasise the readiness of the Community to make special arrangements for the benefit of New Zealand. The “Guardian” quoted Professor Hallstein as saying that British membership would mean a process by which Britain would move out of the Commonwealth preference area and into that of the European Community.
