WELLINGTON WINS, 29-12
Unconvincing Display (N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI. September 19. Wellington scored five tries, two by the test discard. T. N Wolfe, in beating Wanganui. 29-12. in a representative Rugby match played in perfect weather conditions at Spriggens Park today. After scoring 18 points in the first 24 minutes against a very uncertain defence, Wellington allowed Wanganui to take the initiative for a considerable period before the Wellington side shook otT its lethargy to score eight points late in the game. In preparation for its challenge lor the Ranfurly Shield next week, Wellingtons performance was hardly convincing. Only weak defence enabled the team to score as many points as it did. Had it not been for I. N. Mac Ewan’s great work in the line-outs, which he completely dominated, and Wilhment’s cool, often casual, but always supremely competent play at full-back. Wanganui would‘have showed up Wellington’s deficiencies to an even greater degree. Wellington led 18-9 at halftime, with tries by Wolfe <2». Mac Ewan and P. A. Russo. Williment converted three. C. L. Pierce landed three fine penalty goals for Wanganui. B A. Cull scored a try and Williment kicked the conversion. and added a penalty goal and dropped goal for the winner?, in the second half. Pierce scored a try for Wanganui.
