Striking purple patches for most of the opening half and again in the last 10 minutes of the second spell. Otago beat the touring Taranaki Rugby team. 28-14. at Carisbrook today. Otago scored six tries, two conversions, a dropped goal and a penalty goal to two tries, a conversion and two penalty goals. On a hard, fast ground. Otago romped aw’ay in the first half to lead 19-3 at half-time. The home forwards dominated the opposition in all phases and the Otago backs made several fine movements.

In the second half Taranaki staged a recovery to come from 22-6 down at one stage to 22-14 and looked capable of snatching victory. But Otago returned to the attack to notch a couple of fine tries tn the last five minutes of play. Otago’s tries were scored by D. 11. Montgomery (2i, W. J. McAuley. C. R. Laidlaw, D. W Clark and J. G. Flannery. W. ADavies cnverted two. kicked a penalty and dropped a goal. For Taranaki. K. P. Hurley and W. R. Coles scored tries, B. O’Dowda converted one and kicked two penalties.
