U.S. CHARGES DENIED
No Dissension On Gretel (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEWPORT (Rhode Island', September 19. The skipper of the Australian challenger for the America’s Cup, J. Sturrock. yesterday denied charges that the Australian crew had been mishandled. The spokesman for the American defender, ’Weatherly. Mr G. O'Day, in an article in the “Boston Traveller," criticised the handling of the crew appointments and training by the head of the Australian syndicate, Sir Frank Packer. O'Day said the crew was constantly changed, and on the night before the first race Gretel’s navigator was replaced by order of Sir Frank Packer. Sturrock replied: “The facts and allegations contained in Mr O’Day's article are absolutely unfounded. There is no basis at all for his charges of dissension and mishandling of the Australian crew. “There has been no interference in any way. We have the right crew aboard Gretel" It was reported that Sir Frank Packer had received a letter of apology from Mr O'Day for any inconvenience or harm his article may have caused.
