South British And B.H.P. Make Good Gains
South British Insurance shares, which rose 6d on Monday, rose a further Is 6d in Auckland yesterday to sell at 60s. Best gain of the day among Australian issues was B.H.P.’s Is 6d rise to 46s 6d, making a gain of 2s 6d in two days. Kaiapoi B shares responded to the announcement of the higher dividend by rising 6d to 8s 3d. Williamson Jeffery, rose 2s to 41s after lhe dividend increase. Farrier-Waimak. in first business for two months, gained 2s 6d to 18s.
The tone of the market for Australian shares was firmer, and and turn-overs rose sharply. New Zealand shares were again unsteady, with rather more falls than rises.
