FREEZING DISPUTE
Directive By Union
(N.Z. Press Association)
PALMERSTON NORTH, September 19.
The six assessors representing the Freezing Workers’ Association and the Auckland Union and their advocate (Mr F. P. Walsh) are to be asked to work in conjunction with the Federation of Labour "to ensure that freezing workers receive wage increases equitable with those granted to other unions in recent awards.” Resolutions to this effect were carried unanimously at meetings today of the Feilding and Longburn branches of the Wellington Freezing Workers’ Union. The members took this action after hearing a report by their district secretary, Mr T. F. Collerton, on their award concilation meeting which broke down last Friday, when the employers’ assessors refused to offer any wage increases. Mr T. C. Gallagher, assessor for the Wellington-Tara-naki Freezing Workers’ Association. who rejected Mr Walsh as advocate when the award proceedings began, is the seventh assessor of the association. The union’s resolution ignores him altogether.
