STUCK IN THE MUD.—Men of the United States 3rd Reconnaissance Squadron work to free an M-41, 26-ton tank from mud in north-east Thailand during a training mission. The army group, based at Korat, central Thailand, was conducting an exercise with seven tanks to learn how to conduct tactical operations at the height of the Thai monsoon season. The column encountered 100 miles of dirt road which torrential rains had turned into a mass of reddish-brown mud.
