BOY SCOUTS’ CONFERENCE

Services To The Community

An outline of their service in the life of the community and how the scouting movement can co-operate with each service will be given by speakers representing the Police Force,.Transport Department, St. John Ambulance Association, and the Civil Defence Ministry at the annual conference of the Canterbury area of the Boy Scouts’ Association which will be held at the Riccarton Town Hall on Saturday. The speakers will be: Police Force (Constable G. Dynes); Transport Department (Mr J. C. Cherry); St. John Ambulance Association (Mr J. R. Begg); Civil Defence Ministry (Major R. G. Aitken).

The conference will be opened by the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr E. J. Bradshaw). In the afternoon, Mr N. Ryder, an American scouter serving with the United States Navy in Antarctic operations, will give an address on scouting in America. Mr Ryder is an assistant district commissioner at Oakland, California. After a dinner at which the principal speaker will be the Deen of Christchurch (the Very Rev. W. A. Pyatt) 29 Queen’s Scout certificates will be presented by the Area Commissioner (Mr C. W. Hamann).
