FEWER YACHT CLUBS
TWO of Canterbury’s nine A yacht clubs will not be taking an active part in the coming season’s sailing. They are the Stewarts Gully and Timaru clubs, the former having gone into recess and the latter having
declined to the stage where it is virtually defunct. Stewarts Gully will however, hold an opening day A few remaining members have joined other clubs, notably Waimakariri, which will assist during the season by holding several races up-river into Stewarts Gully water. The first major event of the season will be the South Island R Class championships at Timaru during Labour week-end—October 20-22.
On the same week-end a large contingent of Olympic Finns and OK dinghies will visit Nelson and sail with the Aurora club there.
Christchurch’s primary event of note will be the first race for the Britannia Cup on October 28. This is open to Junior Cherub class craft for skippers and crews under the age of 20. It will be sailed on the Estuary.
