Fine Season For Stewart
The selection of the big Canterbury forward, A. J Stewart, as a reserve for the All Black team next Saturday sets the seal on a most successful season for this
fine young player who. al Auckland last Saturday, gave a truly magnificent display.
Stewart, now 21 years old. 6ft 4in in height, and weighing last 101 b, came from the Timaru Technical College to Canterbury University in 1959. and played in the under-20 team. In 1960 he returned to Timaru. and although only 19 years old. he pl; yed for South Canterbury 11 times that year, usually as the number eight forward.
Last year Stew-art returned to Christchurch, won a place in the University senior team, and then was selected for Canterbury. He represented the province 11 times This year, he has been a New Zealand University representative and went to the ‘United States with the universities’ side
