PHOTOGRAPHERS MEET
25th Annual Conference
More than 100 delegates from all parts of New Zealand are in Christchurch for the annual conference and twenty-fifth anniversary of the New Zealand Professional Photographers’ Association. It is the fourth time that the conference has been held in Christchurch. It was opened by the Mayor of Christchurcn (Mr G. Manning) who said that, as an expanding industry, photography had a place in lite iuiure economy of the country.
The president of the association (Mr F. Niederer, Hamilton) warned members against slipping into a groove, and advised them to develop an adventurous and practical attitude to prepare for inevitable changes. Formerly, the association had advanced by widening its scope of membership and forming groups within the association to represent the various branches of photography, he said. This had given it strength to counter restrictions on the supply of essential material, and favourable customs and tax relief had been obtained. There was still a great deal to be done to raise and safeguard the prestige of professional photographers, he said. A photographer needed to be a good businessman, enthusiastic about his job, and receptive to new ideas. To give the public a better appreciation of the work of photographers. Mr Niederer said they should display their work more. The conference will end on Thursday.
