Magistrate’s Court Youth Admits Attempted Carnal Knowledge

Charged with attempting to have sexual intercourse with a girl over the age of 12 years and under 16 at Invercargill on January 5, George Charles Taiaroa, aged 17, a painter, was convicted | and remanded oh bail until (September 21 for sentence by Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Taiaroa pleaded guilty. Sergeant V. F. Townshend said that the girl involved, aged 13, was interviewed by the police in July about a number of youths having sexual intercourse with her at Invercargill and Bluff. The girl was a willing party to the offence, but Taiaroa knew that shie was under 16. REMANDED On a charge of being idle and disorderly in that he had insufficient lawful means of support on September 17, Peter Henry Hopkins, aged 41, also known as Peter Hendrick Hofhuiis, was remanded until September 21. He pleaded not guilty.
