Province Plans One-Day School For Coaches

A one-day coaching school for basketball coaches will be held in Christchurch in March of next year. The executive of the Canterbury Basketball Association decided at a meeting last evening to invite the coach of the 1963 New Zealand team. Miss D Cockerton. to lecture on advanced tactics: the national selector, Miss E. Yates, to cover elementary aspects; Mrs L. Coatsworth to talk on international rules, and Mrs P. Edmonds to demonstrate court craft and ball skills. It Is anticipated that In addition to coaches from local clubs, those from neighbouring associations and school teachers will also welcome the opportunity to attend. The meeting agreed that the entry fee of 10s per person would be imposed. Open Tournament It was resolved to hold an open tournament in three grades at Easter of next year. The draw steward. Mrs F. J. Shannahan. reported on the successful evening trial held last week Contrary to expectations all senior teams were eager to participate in the competition, which is primarily designed to give Canterbury trialists in the New Zealand team hard matches before the final selection of the

team at Lower Hutt at Labour week-end. The executive will present a new basketball to the winning team.
