'Reynolds News’ To Continue
(N.ZPA.-Reuter—Copyright}
LONDON. September 16
Britain's 102 - year - old Socialist Sunday newspaper. “Reynolds News," will die in name after its last appearance today. By next Sunday it will have been resurrected as the “Sunday Citizen.” Behind this simple manoeuvre lies a post-war heartache which Labour leaders have found impossible to remedy. Their Sunday champion has appeared to be dying slowly, the victim of indifference among 12 million Socialist voters. While the voice of the Left languishes with a circulation of 320.000 copies, the newspaper giants of the Right forge ahead with millions of adherents. Now the mammoth Transport and General Workers' Union has attempted to infuse new life into the ailing paper with a cheque for £5OOO. The editor, Mr W. R. Richardson, says this will be spent on ‘‘launching and building up the 'Sunday Citizen' as a dynamic and influential newspaper of the Labour, trade union, and cooperative movements."
