NEW PLANT IN NORTH
Swiss Licence For Appliances
A 20,000 sq. ft factory to manufacture electrical appliances will soon be built at Havelock North for J. G. Seton and Company, of Hastings. The company may employ up to 150 workers. It hopes to open an export trade with Australia and has appointed agents in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. The company has obtained sole manufacturing and selling rights in New Zealand and Australia for a Swiss brand of electrical appliances. The first line for production will be steam-and-dry electric irons. Mr J. G. Seton, managing director of the company, which is at present an electrical and general wholesaler, said recently that the contract had been signed with one of Europe's biggest electrical appliance manufacturers, Fabriques d'Appareil Electrique, L. Henziroks, Ltd., of Switzerland. The Arm has already begun work on its iron at Hastings, and it should be on sale throughout New Zealand towards the end of this month. By the end of the year a staff of 25 will be producing this first appliance.
