Deportation To Jamaica

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) KINGSTON (Jamaica), September 16. Reuters man in Havana. Mr John Bland, arrived in Kingston today after being deported from Cuba. He had been held incommunicado in Cuban gaols for six days before his deportation. Mr Bland has been Reuters correspondent in Havana for two years. Tne reason for his arrest and deportation was not stated. Also deported with Mr Bland was a journalist for the magazine “Newsweek.” Mr John Barnes, who had been held by the Cuban secret police since September 6. Mr Bland was arrested tn September while in the company of the representatives of the “New York Times” and the American National Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Raul Casanas, and his wife, Mrs Sarita Casanas, who were reported to be still in prison.
