Steadier Note Yesterday On Stock Exchange
After the weak opening of trading on Monday, share prices steadied yesterday and most issues changed hands at unaltered prices. Rises and falls were fairly evenly balanced. Love Construction, McKendricks Glass and the unlisted Kents sold at sharply improved prices. Hallenstein Bros., Meat Packers and Skellerup Industries fell sharply. A feature of Christchurch trading was the sale of 3524 Mason Struthers shares, in five parcels, at the steady price of 4s. Bums Philp, in first New Zealand business since August 9, fell 12s 6d. Over the same period these shares have fallen 16s in Australia. L. J. Hooker fell a further 4d to 3s. Several of the Australian leaders, however, including 8.H.P., made good gains.
