RACING Gay Fox Sprints Well At Wingatui

“The Press” Special Service

DUNEDIN, Sept. 18. Gay Fox, Super Glen and Mighty Smart, three members of A. N. Didham’s team which are due to make a fresh start on tihe second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting, showed that they were well forward when they worked in an attractive manner at Wingiatui this morning. Gay Fox. ridden by his Federal Handicap rider, R. N. Marsh, completed a round of track work by sprinting home the last three furlongs in 39 2-s®ec. The fast work was held on the outside of the course proper. Conditions were ideal. Super Glen (Marsh), which will be bracketed with Gay Fox in the second leg of the T.A.B, double, was accomnanied by Mighty Smart (R. J. Skelton) over half a mile in 53 3-ssec. the last three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. Francisco (Mrs V. Clutterbuck), one of the first to galilop, was under a good hold in 55sec after running the opening furlong in 13sec. Sixth in the sprint on Saturday, Francisco may be better suited by the extra furlong in the Federal Handicap this week. Duplex (R. O. Cairns) and Zetland Leigh (L. Tree) ran half a mile in 54 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 41 2-ssec. Foxmana (R. J. Skelton) is coming along nicely in a fresh preparation. Accompanied by nis stabfemate, High Castle

(B. P. Kennedy), he completed a round of strong pace work by coming home the last three furlongs in 42sec. Barana (A. N. Diciham), which will resume racing in the Salisbury Handicap, was accompanied by Bright Countess (M. La nd rebel, a three-year-old by Silver King from Smartly (R. N. Marsh), and a three-year-old Underwood filly from Hope So (A. Tweedie) in a sprint over three furlongs in 40sec. Roseaiir (H. T. Anderton) and Kumai (W. Gye) recorded a sound trial over a mile, with Roseair having a length to spare at the post. They ran the last seven furlongs in Im in 36sec and the final three furlongs in 41sec. Reeco (R. O. Cairns) was galloping easily alongside Irish Rose (H. T. Anderton) and Tara Hill (L. Tree) in Imiin 39sec, the first half-mile in 55sec. The Toff (W. Gye) and Kurdrille (J. Carvalho) were together over five furlongs in Imin 9 2-ssec, the first two furlongs in 26 2-ssec. Lord Flair (R. J. Skelton) which is a lazy worker on his own, took Imin lOsec, the last three furlongs in 42 2-ssec. There was little between Fair Note (J. S. Crawford), Regal Birth (A. L Powell) and Debater (R. J. Skelton) in a three furlong sprint on the plough in 40 2-ssec. Fair Note could be an improved runner on Saturday if the track remains firm. Regal Birth is an interesting newcomer to the two-year-old field in the Juvenile Handicap. Debater (by Chatsworth II) is a likely looking maiden galloper from H. J. Powell’s stable. He is being given plenty of time. Captain Hunt (R. Low) cleared four hurdles in promising style. He has reached the stage in his preparation as a jumper where he would benefit by company in his schooling. He may have his first race as a hurdler at Gore. Banbridge (R. Low) jumped well over six flights in preparation for the Wakari Hurdles on Saturday.
