Running Rail At Addington

A low hub • type running rail may be installed at Addington. An application from Addington Trotting Course, Ltd., supported by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, to replace the existing inner track fence at Addington with a low hub rail similar to that used at Yonkers Raceway, New York, was considered at a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Trotting Conference last week. The application was approved on the condition that the old running rail would be re-erected if the low hub rail did not prove successful under New Zealand racing conditions. Other decisions were:— Registered: The Christchurch Trotting Club, which was formed at a meeting last week, was granted registration as a non-total! sator club

Broadcasting: Meetings of the following trotting clubs will be broadcast this season —Cambridge. Hawera, Ashburton. Kaikoura, Marlborough, Reefton and Westport.

Championships: The president, Mr W. H. Roche, and Mr H. J. Hewson, a member of the executive, will represent the conference at the In-ter-Dominion Championship meeting to be held in Adelaide in February. Annual Meeting: The annual meeting of the conference will be held in Wellington on July 11, 1963. The dates committee meeting will be held two days earlier. Re-elected: Mr W. E. Desmond. of Christchurch, who retired by rotation as a member of the Totalisator Agency Board, was re-elected unopposed. Skull Caps: In order to provide the utmost protection for horsemen, it was decided to effect a small improvement to the new type of skull cap, which became mandatory this season. Horsemen who have purchased the new caps have been notified to return them to the place of purchase so that the alteration can be effected. Until the alteration is made horsemen will be permitted to use the older type of cap Reasonable latitude will be allowed, but this privilege will be withdrawn at a date to be announced.

To Comnete At Auckland Smokeaway and Our Own left Christchurch yesterday on their way to Auckland where they will race at Alexandra Park Raceway on Saturday night. Smokeaway will contest the Ferguson Handicap, the first leg of the double, while Our Own is a candidate for the Whitford Handicap, the main race on the programme for trotters.
