About 1020 chickens, rang-’ ing in age from one day to Ove weeks, were destroyed when a fire broke out in a brec "ng coop at the Sunnyside Hospital farm about 3 a.m. on Thursday. The cause of the fire is not known
The manager of the farm. Mr W. McMaster said he could not estimate the value of the birds. He said the chickens were not being raised commencally but for replacing the hospital farm poultry stock. The roof of the concrete coop was destroyed and the walls badly damaged. The building measures 73ft by 15ft.
Other runs adjoining the coop, which iS about a quarter of a mile from Annex road, were not damaged. One engine from Central and two from Sockburn attended th* fir*.
