Advice On N.Z. Cooking

New Zealand wines were excellent for cooking purposes. although not quite mature enough for good drinking wine, said Mr G. Sussman at a recent meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Electrical Association for Women. Mr Sussman showed how the New Zealand housewife can vary her meals by the use of herbs and spices, and cf seldom-used meats and fishes. There were a great many typically New Zealand foods which were insufficiently used, but were appreciated by visitors to the Dominion, he said. Shellfish was an example. Mr Sussman emphasised that meat should not be overcooked. There was a tendency for that in New Zealand. He demonstrated the making of stock for sauces. Mrs A. Schumacher, the branch president, welcomed about 40 persons to the meeting, and explained the association's aims and objects for a number of new members. The speaker was thanked by Mrs C. J. Bashford.
